Thanks for the backtrace on this crash. Can you try running the same test in
xvfb-run?


$ sudo apt-get install xvfb
$ xvfb-run ./run-octave -g
>> test __osmesa_print__.cc-tst


This should allow Octave to be run with an X display but without a dependency
on your video card.

Or can you switch to the nouveau driver temporarily to see if the crash
doesn't occur?
