Follow-up Comment #15, bug #44007 (project octave):
unpack.m call "tar" directly as well.
I was busy fixing the XFAIL in unpack.m (bug #43979) until I hit this "sub"bug
and got stalled.
Once (bsd)tar works I'll pick up this bug and the unpack.m one again.
