Follow-up Comment #16, bug #44485 (project octave):

Thanks for the new patch.
It works at least on Linux (I will try Windows later). 
Starting ./run-octave &, entering 'inv (rand (10000))' and then clicking File
| Exit from the main menu, Octave waits for ~3 seconds, then gives a popup.
If I click "Force exit" in that popu, I get a sort of backtrace, a very long
one:

That long printout doesn't happen with e.g., sleep(10) - Octave exits more
gracefully then.

For unsaved editor files there's a nice popup about saving the file.
