Follow-up Comment #34, bug #45488 (project octave):

I noticed that as of a recent change, plotimages.m
does not select the graphics_toolkit any more.

This will not work for gnuplot. One of my csets had
the code to handle gnuplot, but it has not been
included.

Currently, only "extended" needs OpenGL, so use
of gnuplot requires a test to use the old extended
code (which has been removed) in the extended section.

This could be what caused John's problem.
