Follow-up Comment #1:

Confirmed.

It's easy to check that the current directory is not either the home directory
or the java installation directory before adding the contents of
javaclasspath.txt.  I believe I fixed it in this cset
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/4262598620ae).
