Here comes a revised patch that adds unit tests.

@Julien, could you please check whether the expected results of the new unit
tests are Matlab compatible?

@Maintainers, please apply the patch to the stable branch. Without the patch
16 functions of the interval package can't be verified under Octave 4.0.0.
