In my Fortran times (20-30+ years back) the FORTRAN math libs didn't quite
bother catching NaNs, Infs, uninitialized memory bit patterns and possibly a
couple of other non-numbers (I suppose one reason Fortran could be so fast);
and happily produced just garbage instead. Of course there were some limits
but esp. for the "OPT=3" cases they were lax.
Maybe Fortran has "improved" since those days of CDC Cyber mainframes but I
actually doubt it.
So, testing for +/- Inf besides NaN sounds like a valuable addition :-)
