Update of bug #46770 (project octave):

Status: In Progress => Wont Fix
Summary: num2str produces different results in Octave and in
Matlab => num2str in Matlab overwrites user-supplied input FORMAT

Follow-up Comment #17:

I made num2str and int2str Matlab compatible for all cases where a FORMAT
argument is not used. See
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/b0afe1993268. I won't override a
programmer's intention by changing a user-specified FORMAT, so that
incompatibility will remain by choice. And as the documentation says, sprintf
is always available for having more control over the output.
