Thank you, I pulled the latest changeset and built Octave to try it out. It
seems to work as I hoped it would.

I set the current highlighted line to a pale grey which works fine for me, I'm
not sure how it would pan out for those with poor eyesight if it was set
automatically to a low contrast hue without an option to override it.
