Follow-up Comment #24, bug #44310 (project octave):

This bug has been outstanding for quite a while.
The patch provided fixes the specific problem
with atanh, but it would be VERY good if someone
with the required C++ skills could implement the
suggested fix for the other elementary functions
that currently use numerically unstable transformations.
