Follow-up Comment #63, bug #46795 (project octave):

If it may help with diagnosing: 

Having breakpoints in a function file in the editor (added using "dbstop in ..
at ..." statements in the terminal), then editing the file, then trying to
save the file, leads to a hard crash.

However it turns out that the edits were saved after all. So I surmise the
crash occurs when restoring the file and/or wiping its breakpoints in the
editor.

Just for completeness: tried on Win 7, not yet verified on Linux.
