1. Does the graph draw properly? 
yes

2. What graphics toolkit are you using?
ans = qt

3. Are there any graphs it can produce? Try something like 
yes, but I met the same problem after I closed figure.

4. Can you interact with the GUI other than typing in the command window?
yes, except the command windows, the other windows works fine.

If you run the script with a "keyboard" statement after the plot, does it
respond to the "continue" function? 
sorry, I am newbies from matlab to octave, I don't know what it is.

5. What desktop environment are you using? (KDE? Gnome?) 
mate with compize(a Gnome 2 fork)
