At comment #2:
"pkg install io-2.4.0.tar.gz"

That should be good; but as it doesn't work, where did you get io-2.4.0.tar.gz
from?

Could you try:

more off;
pkg install -forge -verbose io

and report back, please?

BTW, which "older" io package that "did not include it" were you referring
to?
