Follow-up Comment #1, bug #47313 (project octave):
Since the gui is started in a two step process so that the GUI is running in a
process with no controlling tty, you can't just do
gbd octave
What I usually do is issue the following command at the Octave prompt to start
gdb in a separate terminal and attach it to an already running Octave GUI
process:
system (sprintf ("gnome-terminal --command 'gdb -p %d'", getpid ()),
"async");
Substitute the gnome-terminal command for your favorite terminal window
program. Once gdb starts and gives you the "(gdb) " prompt, type "continue"
to allow Octave to run again.
