Follow-up Comment #65, bug #47372 (project octave):

Even though the discussion went into a different direction. I have done a
mxe-octave Windows built with the "default" branch of the Octave repository,
using changes up to cset 6619945e4434, this includes the "OpenMP patch".

The results under Windows 7 are:
* running "test imread, clear all, test imread" does NOT crash any more.
* running "test imread, exit" still DOES trigger a segfault.

So this OpenMP patch does improve the situation under Windows. But it's not
the full solution.

(I haven't succeeded to build a patched Windows version of the "stable" Octave
branch, and no give up.)
