Details:

Running make says everything is built but when doing sudo make install, a lot
more is built fresh, especially documentation in HTML. Running make 2 or 3
times before make install prevents this. No major harm. It only means that
some build subdirectories need root to delete. Minor bug somewhere in docbuild
maybe?
