Follow-up Comment #105, bug #41699 (project octave):

One more details, to this bug:

The observed crash on "test imread, clear all, test imread" after starting
bin/octave-gui.exe does

* only happen if Octave is installed on the Windows system via the
nsis-INSTALLER file. 

* If you install the very same version of Octave via a ZIP-DIST folder, then
it is NOT possible to provoke this crash. 

I have tested this with the official 4.0.2 windows release installer and
zip-dist, as well as with a self compiled installer and zip-dist.

This might also be the explanation why we thought that some recent patches had
solved this issue. At least my own tests were only ever done with a zip-dist
(because using the installer, always means uninstallling the other
installation first).
