Follow-up Comment #2, bug #47783 (project octave):
Please try upgrading to the latest bug fix release, version 4.0.2. We have
not seen anyone have problems with items 1 and 2 on a Linux platform.
For Item 3, the windows are detachable. Just pull them out of their frames
and you can have them exist simultaneously on the desktop. Octave will
remember this setting and their placement as well so you only need to do this
once.
