Follow-up Comment #39, bug #47974 (project octave):

OK, please try the attached post-plot view patch.  Try commands like

sombrero
[use mouse to rotate]

demo pcolor
[use mouse to rotate]

In the latter case the angle once rotation begins with the mouse is correct,
but because of gnuplot's logic on this the plot size discontinuously jumps to
4/7 the size so that it can accommodate the maximum extent possible by
rotation (the distance from one corner of a cube to its associated
non-adjacent corner).  I think this is the best behavior that can be achieved
for now, but as I say I'm discussing with gnuplot developers right now the
finer details about positioning 3D plots.
