Follow-up Comment #44, bug #47974 (project octave):

Wait, that can't be right.  N_tup determines the width of the data.  I must
have deleted too much... Attached is a patch to restore N_tup and the
pre-assigned zz data matrix.

Regarding the inner loop, I think this is correct.  My understanding--without
looking into it too deeply--was that the style is typically 1 string within
the cell, possibly 2.  For example, maybe length 2 would be used for lines +
points, e.g. "-*g", if I'm recalling the format syntax correctly.
