Details:

OS: Linux photon 4.5.0-2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.5.4-1 (2016-05-16) x86_64
GNU/Linux
octave version: 4.1.0+ (hg id: 21773:45871845a93c )
built with gnu compiler: 5.3.1

in both graphics toolkits fltk and qt, the prompt does NOT come back after a
plot command. eg. plot([1,3,2]) opens a window for the plot, but the command
window is inactive afterwards.

in the background the processes octave and octave-gui still run. if the
workspace window is present in the gui, one can observe, that input is still
processed. however NO output whatsoever is available.

the machine where this happens, is running under debian/testing. on an older
machine, I compiled a nearly identical version from the dev-branch (4.1.0+,
but perhaps a different hg-id) with gnu compiler version 4.9. on this machine
this problem did NOT occur until now.
