Follow-up Comment #11, bug #48201 (project octave):

@JohnD: Thanks for the patch.  I was just working through the code with the
same idea in mind, that we were accidentally opening the file in text mode
rather than binary mode.  I'll run through the whole loop with mxe-octave so
it will be several hours before I can verify the patch.
