Follow-up Comment #38, bug #45507 (project octave):

I would prefer that the functions not be dropped, since they are testing
exactly the cases that this change was meant to address.

I don't think we have a "policy" for tests that are known to fail on some
systems because of unresolvable problems. They are just known to fail, users
see them every time they build and learn to ignore them. Check the mailing
list archives for recent 4.0 releases and see the test suite results that
people post.

I used to regularly build Octave on RHEL 5 and always get failing tests due to
tolerance problems on functions like log, pow, and sqrt, and I learned to
ignore them.
