Follow-up Comment #2:
It was a regression from the last time I tried this, which was apparently
years ago when the generated installation was much smaller.
I tried 'make zipdist' and I get
make: *** No rule to make target 'zipdist'. Stop.
For anyone who later reads this, 'make zip-dist', does seem to work.
