Follow-up Comment #14, bug #48474 (project octave):
It appears that you gnuplot either corrupted or miscompiled.
You can download and install a standalone gnuplot binary
from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnuplot/files/gnuplot/5.0.3/
You should be able to tell octave to use a different gnuplot program via
gnuplot_binary() function.
