Hi Mike, 
i now endowed the methods under consideration 
with a doxygen comment. 

I think there is a need to add some documentation in the manual. 
If I have a look at the according pages of Matlab, e.g.
http://de.mathworks.com/help/matlab/matlab_external/passing-data-to-a-java-method.html#bqgs38j

then I feel, that adding a whole section would be appropriate. 
Should be in Appendix A 'External Code Interface(s)' (s is missing?), section
'Java Interface' top level. I would place it 
as a sibling after 'Creating an instance of a Java class'. 

I think also, we should add docs as we proceed with the conversion
problematic.
