Follow-up Comment #1, bug #49180 (project octave):

I think I have seen the very same: An 
* occasional hang-up 
* if I use "close" 
* directly after a "print" command 
* with the gnuplot graphics_toolkit 
* on a Windows machine (on both tested Win machines acutally)
* (with a visible figure in this case). 
It is described as a side note here: bug #49179, comment #11, 2nd main point.
In comment #9 of this bug report is also a shorter script to reproduce this
behavior.
