Follow-up Comment #5, bug #49222 (project octave):

with cset "release 2.4.0 921:19abe4f284ff" (I had to fix
octave_config_info.USE_64_BIT_IDX_T -> __have_feature__ for Octave 4.1.0+) it
works with the CLI and the GUI.

If I use Octave 4.2.0-rc2 and install the newest io 2.4.3 and replace the .m
files for the OCT interface in inst it also works.

LANG=de_DE.utf8
Debian GNU/Linux 8.5 (jessie)

I also tried it with "LANG=nl_NL.utf8" (which I guess is your default locale)
and it works
