Follow-up Comment #48, bug #49216 (project octave):
I played with "ftview" utility (part of the freetype demos) --
at least some problems with Verdana is resolved
(bold N W look normal) if I turn off antialiasing.
I cannot reproduce the problem with calibri font with this viewer.
