Follow-up Comment #49, bug #49216 (project octave): So somehow whatever gnome desktop / fontconfig does for my desktop does not seem to apply directly to qt plot findow. E.g. attached is the screenshot of the terminal windows with Verdan Bold 9 font set. It does look ugly but mostly due to wrong kerning. (Who does kerning? i assume it is still freetype. In any case one should not use proportional font for terminals.) But individual characters look fine. I have slight hinting/RGB antialiasing and freetype 2.7.0 on this particular computer. The issue with Calibri looks to be a different one. Dmitri.
