Follow-up Comment #15, bug #49222 (project octave): The current approach is quite flexible and can easily be extended to other encodings if this should be necessary: Just pass a function handle for that encoding to tidyxml and it should work. Attached is yet another patch that adds the encoding and decoding of UTF-8 to ods2oct and oct2ods as well. I also added a fixme that shows how this could work if native2unicode and unicode2native was available in Octave. I would guess the patch should now be ready to be pushed.
