Update of bug #49222 (project octave): Status: Ready For Test => Fixed Open/Closed: Open => Closed _______________________________________________________ Follow-up Comment #23: I've just uploaded io-2.4.4. to the package release tracker with the fixes I outlined in comment #21. That means that in this new release the *default* operation as regards encoding and XML processing is back to what it was in io-2.4.0. But for Windoze 7 and below (and maybe Win8 & Win8.1, I don't know) a way out is available to deal with UTF-8 encodings. Closing this bug report as fixed. (I'll admit that this all took a bit more work than I expected back in comment #1 :-) But I'm glad with the results.)
