"65001-patch" so far.)

No, I cannot type any umlauts in the GUI console as well. Neither with
Octave-4.2.0-rc2 under WinXP, nor using my "cstrings-patch", nor issuing your
chcp command from within the console beforehand. (But I am strongly hesitating
to open just another bug report for that, let's wait if some of those
discussed patches will help.)
