Follow-up Comment #30, bug #49118 (project octave): I've just compiled the current stable branch. And the original issue is now fixed for me on linux (I have only ever observed this specific issue on linux. Nevertheless this patch also improves the behavior of mxe-octave with non-english charcters on Windows as well.) I suggest to close this bug report now as fixed. The discussion about improvements to the qt5 version of mxe-octave could be continued elsewhere (with an appropriate title).
