Follow-up Comment #28, bug #49510 (project octave):

Yes it is an SSD hard disk. Would I have better luck if I put the spreadsheet
on a slower network drive?

BTW, the reason I am able to use COM rather than OCT was by switching to the
32-bit version of Octave. The 32-bit version was able to find the
corresponding version of Java, without which COM objected.
