Follow-up Comment #14, bug #49609 (project octave):

For the record, I use GNOME and Octave itself does not crash itself, and does
not crash the GNOME desktop environment, when running from a .desktop file and
using Ctrl+C in Octave's command window, whether something is running or not.

So far we have seen that it affects Unity and KDE, not GNOME.
