Follow-up Comment #3, bug #49622 (project octave):

Your snippet provides image with no unoccupied areas for me too. But once I
remove last 2 lines and maximize window manually and save to .png file via
menu it still works as described in original post to this issue.

PS. I am using version 4.0.2 which was installed from official PPA.
