Follow-up Comment #6, bug #40251 (project octave):
Here is what Matlab (V2014b) does:
(not that we need to copy them)
2D and 3D:
No default action for any left click, scroll, right click mouse action in the
figure windows. You need to select an action from the toolbar first, before
you can manipulate the plot.
So with our current qt graphics toolkit we are doing the very same (in Octave
4.2.0).
