Follow-up Comment #2, bug #49927 (project octave):

Right, you have Win64, sorry for overlooking that.

The rest of your report indicates the usual symptoms of memory fragmentation.
That is, after several attempts to declare large arrays there isn't enough
contiguous free RAM available, although total free RAM may look to be
sufficient, and after a restart it works again for few moments.

There's no cure for this other than 64-bit Octave.
