Follow-up Comment #4, bug #49936 (project octave):

Thanks for the suggestion John. Tried it but still didn't work, the plot still
freezes for a long time and never finished. It's possible this is a different
issue from the font cache. 

I tried using the Win64 zip file just now and it worked. Perhaps this is an
issue specific to the 4.2.0 .exe installer?
