Follow-up Comment #1:

Thanks for your bug report. This has been previously reported, see bug
#48913.

In summary, the interpreter is correct, the editor highlighting rules are
incorrect.

The issue is in Qscintilla and would need to be fixed there, as I told the
previous reporter. I have no idea if that has been done, but once it is fixed
in a released version of Qscintilla, then it will be highlighted correctly in
the Octave editor.
