Follow-up Comment #2, bug #50177 (project octave):

The OP may be referring to the GUI help browser. If I open the Documentation
tab, type ".*" in the search field, and check the "global search" box, the GUI
runs to 100% and has to be killed.

Seems like it's being interpreted as a regular expression. Except when I try
other regexp syntaxes in the search box, they return empty results.
