Follow-up Comment #2, bug #50246 (project octave):
I tested a bit with the gzipped tarball.
$ head -c 6136902 ../octave-00f7b278defd.tar.gz |gzip -d >/dev/null
gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file
$ head -c 6136903 ../octave-00f7b278defd.tar.gz |gzip -d >/dev/null
gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--format violated
looking there, I find the appended html files. and they weren't even at the
end of the files. after them followed binary.
so, to my eyes, this looks like a bug in the webgui.
