Follow-up Comment #6, bug #50519 (project octave):

I see the dots when using gnuplot 4.6.6.  However the plot is clean if I use
gnuplot 5.0.1.  Is that the case if you use version 5.0.5?

If so, I think we might just call this good.  Trying to figure out which cset
fixed the problem and backporting it is going to be difficult because Dan
Sebald did quite a lot of work on gnuplot toolkit on the dev branch.
