Follow-up Comment #1, bug #50561 (project octave):

I fixed the problem in this cset
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/aed81b364903).

The issue was that for the double case only, retval was being assigned the
value of epsval for every iteration of the for loop.  The solution was just to
bring it outside the loop.
