Follow-up Comment #15, bug #49839 (project octave):

The following string should be enough to trigger this bug.

John, can you see if this one causes the perl error message?


s = __makeinfo__("@documentencoding address@hidden @address@hidden defvar\n")


That should return the right text string " -- Variable: X", but it should also
print the error message on stderr.

Now even if that's so, I don't know how to capture this error, because the
text is sent to stderr, which system() ignores, and the exit status of
makeinfo is still success.
