Follow-up Comment #4, bug #51388 (project octave):
An observation that may play a role here is that in the GUI, heavily populated
directories sometimes take ages to be shown in the File Browser pane.
But admittedly I never checked/verified that in the CLI - could well be as
bad, and in fact that's what I expect - the GUI itself isn't that slow.
