Details:

I use Octave on a VMWare virtual Ubuntu 16.04 on a MacHost. The issue occurs
when I try to save a file onto the shared folder (e.g /mnt/hgfs/...) using the
gui dialog box. Here, the "save" button is simply disabled. Saving into the
home folder is possible.
However, using "save file.m" from the gui's command line works fine, even in
the shared folders.

Runing Octave as root shows the same behaviour. 

This happens on Octave 4.0.2 from the ppa octave:stable, as well as on Octave
4.2 build from source.
