Follow-up Comment #2, bug #50104 (project octave):
had problems too. no error during new installation of not detected java.
- win10 64-bit
- openjdk 1.8.0_121_1 64-bit
- octave 4.2.1 64-bit
debugged with Process Monitor
fixed it through adding to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/JavaSoft/Java Runtime
Environment
(which had the key "1.8.0_121_1")
the string value "Currentversion" = 1.8.0_121_1
in the registry
JAVA_HOME is setup correctly, but unfortunately not enough for Octave...
