Follow-up Comment #1, bug #51632 (project octave): a good question: do the paths 'need' to be hardcoded and absolute? the zip version already uses ~dp0 to find the local path at startup. could the zip packgage have a manually created package list with entries using that nomenclature? All subsequent pkg installs would get absolute paths, and so would a pkg rebuild.
